Cats make wonderful pets because they are playful, caring, cuddly and clean animals that are fiercely independent. Much like other pets, if you feed them, play with them and care for them they will be your loyal friend for life. As is the case for humans, there are many conventional products that you may be buying that will harm your cat’s health in the long run.

Do not feed your cat a diet of dry pellets or processed wet food that contains chemicals, additives, preservatives, antibiotics, pesticides and other unhealthy ingredients. This is lacking all the necessary nutrition that your cat needs and the additives may cause all kinds of chronic health problems. In addition to this, if dry pellets are the bulk of your cat’s diet this will lead to dehydration as their bodies are made up of about 70% water.

Cats are true carnivores that need to eat a high protein diet of fresh meat from beef, lamb, chicken, fish, etc. Fresh, raw or cooked meat should make up the bulk of your cat’s diet, although you can throw in some off cuts of vegetables too. Make sure the meat is free of chemicals, antibiotics, growth hormones, GMOs, preservatives or grains.

Cats are small and sensitive animals that react to chemicals and toxins in the environment. For the sake of yourself and your family, including your cat, try to use natural and organic cleaning products and avoid conventional mattresses and furniture which emit chemicals and toxic fumes.

Cats need regular grooming and dental care to keep them in optimal health. Dental infections are one of the most common reasons for a visit to the vet and disease of the mouth can lead to other health problems as well.

Brush your cat’s fur frequently to reduce the occurrence of fur balls and make sure to clip their claws so that they avoid injury from getting caught in clothing or furniture. Shorter nails also means you are less likely to get hurt during play time which will result in more frequent interaction between you and your cat.

Cats are active creatures and they need play or exercise a few times a day. This may include using play toys or allowing them to spend some time with a scratching post. Scratching is good exercise because it strengthens their chest, back, stomach, and shoulders and allows them to release physical and emotional stress. To save your furniture invest in a quality organic scratching post that is made with eco-friendly materials.

By raising your cat with a natural and organic lifestyle you will ensure that they remain healthy for as long as possible and you will reap the rewards of having a happy pet with no vet bills!
