Superfood Lattes

More people are becoming health-conscious and are looking for healthy alternatives to their morning coffee fix. “Superfood” lattes are becoming all the rage due to their great health benefits, interesting flavours and eye-catching colours. While they won’t give you the same kick that coffee provides, they will help you to avoid the crashes and headaches.  You can chose between turmeric, beetroot, matcha, charcoal and the variety of nutritional benefits they bring.

A turmeric superfood latte may be the most familiar as many people make similar drinks in the form of turmeric tea and golden milk. Turmeric powder is combined with black pepper, spices, sweetener and frothy milk to make a delicious drink that is anti-inflammatory for the body.
Matcha superfood lattes are a gorgeous bright green colour, are rich in vitamins and minerals and contain about 137 times more antioxidants than a cup of normal green tea.

For the slightly more adventurous among us, the charcoal superfood latte is a beverage with a dark grey or black colour that is made by adding a small amount of activated charcoal powder. Activated charcoal has long been used to treat gastrointestinal symptoms by binding to toxins and removing them from the body.

The beetroot latte is made with bright red beetroot powder that is rich in antioxidants, fights inflammation, lowers blood pressure and boosts liver detoxification.  It is rich in nutrients like calcium, iron, potassium, folate and manganese and provides a sweet taste to the superfood latte.

You can make your own beetroot latte at home using a blender by following this recipe.

Ingredients:

1 tsp beetroot powder
2 cm grated ginger
2 tbsp hot water
½ tsp vanilla essence
1 tbsp raw honey
240ml almond milk or coconut milk

Method:

Gently heat up the milk of your choice.
Pour the warmed up milk, along with the rest of the ingredients into a blender.
Blend until well-mixed and frothy.
Pour into a mug and enjoy!
