Eastwind Textiles specialises in 100% bamboo sheets, towels and blankets.

100% Bamboo textiles are soft and luxurious.
Our bed sheets wick away moisture keeping you cool on hot night.
Our towels absorb a great deal better than cotton – three times better.

Eastwind Textiles stock 100% bamboo sheets in all sizes from King down to Cot, mostly in white. Our white twill pillowcase sets are large enough to fit most bassinettes and pillows. We have King and Queen size self-striped cream quilt covers. Our 100% bamboo towels absorb three times better than cotton, just one pat and you’re dry. They are soft and free of odour after use. Bath sheets are big – 100 x 180cm – and in red, green, blue, cream and sand. Bath towels with matching hand towels are in green, sand, cream and white. Face cloths in cream and sand.

Eastwind Textiles have 100% blankets with satin borders in Cot, Queen and King sizes. Our 100% bamboo t-shirts were made in Fiji and are in black or natural. Other eco-clothing are jocks, sox, sport sox and sport towels.

Moso bamboo is a grass plant that grows so fast it can be harvested every three years. It is light, so can be cut down and carried to the waiting truck. It sprouts culms that start a new branch, so there is no need to till the land with petrol guzzling tractors. Pandas eat a different bamboo, like koalas, they are fussy eaters.

Bamboo does not need pesticide as it is naturally anti-microbial, which means it kills pests that try to eat it. 100% bamboo fabric has been shown to kill bacteria (Ref). Scientists still disagree whether this anti-bacterial quality in the bamboo plant is also in the fabric, but we find the sheets, towels and even the sox don’t smell after use.

One result of global warming plus the increase in population is the decrease in drinking water worldwide. It is drying up in lakes and river basins and in groundwater aquifers. 35% of the world’s population doesn’t have access to drinkable water. Julian Cribb writes that in wealthy counties ‘we “eat” an awful lot of water. The average calorie we put in our mouths takes a litre of water to produce.’ For example he quotes that a kilo of chicken takes 6,000 litres of water to produce, a kilo of beef 15,000. Growing in its natural habit, bamboo thrives under rainwater, whereas cotton of all kinds requires enormous amounts of water. It takes 4,000 litres to grow enough cotton to make one t-shirt. (The Coming Famine by Julian Cribb. Pub. CSIRO).

Eastwind Textiles 100% bamboo products have:

  • CSIRO certificate that confirms that sheets and towels are 100% bamboo
  • OCIA International Organic Certificate for Wild Crops Bamboo.
  • Oeko-Tex 100 Certificate that our products contain no harmful chemicals.
