New Zealand's Pacific Perfumes embraces nature. So, it will come as no surprise that everything we do comes from a commitment to sustainability. We take this world very seriously and every step we take as perfumers, we aim to minimize the effects on our environment. Possibly like you, we understand that our world is enormously fragile.

From the first moment you handle perfumes from our Artisan Botanical solid Perfume range, you will feel this commitment. Our whole-earth packaging is made from entirely renewable and recyclable sources. Winner of the HBA Green Packaging Award 2011, The New Zealand Packaging Councils Judges Special Award and Finalist in the UK & Europes Natural & Organic Packaging Awards 2012.

The Artisan Botanical range of perfumes is made entirely of ingredients that are 100% natural and 100% botanical.  Our fragrances themselves are extracted from the purest botanicals of flower, woods, and resins. These safe raw materials are ethically sourced. Our base materials are Organic Golden Jojoba Oil and Organic NZ Beeswax, both certified by the respective suppliers but Pacific Perfumes products are not themselves certified.

And as for our lovely little wooden pots?

We absolutely do not support the logging of New Zealand native timber so we searched high and low to find an eco-friendly alternative. Finally we settled on the perfect solution - Sustainable Beech that has Rainforest Alliance and FSC certification. Sourced from sustainable New Zealand forests, a new tree is planted for every one that is logged. YES!

Uniquely Kiwi, we donate $1 from each and every sale of the Artisan range to the NZ Forest and Bird Society who plays an invaluable role in protecting and nurturing Aotearoa’s native plants, animals and wild places.
Being sustainable and putting our conscience into action is something we work hard at and are very proud of.

What Inspires us?

Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand, and means ‘The Land of the Long White Cloud'. Myth and legend - not to mention history - claim it was Hine-te-aparangi, the wife of the Maori navigator Kupe, who on first sighting Aotearoa called out "He ao! He aotea! He aotearoa!" (A cloud! A white cloud! A long white cloud!). With Hine-te-aparangi in our minds we create perfumes that echo her wonder and joy at seeing our ‘long white cloud’. Her vision became part of our inspiration.

How did this all begin?

Back in 1983 while visiting Santorini, that most beautiful of Greek Isles, Kate JasonSmith chanced upon a tiny ceramic pot containing the most exquisite solid perfume. Hoping the perfume would last forever proved futile. But the little ceramic pot Kate kept as a constant reminder of everything about that particular moment in her life.

Some ten years later back in New Zealand, Kate met Francesca who explained she’d run a very successful business in the tourist gift market in Greece … creating solid perfumes in ceramic pots…‘Do you mean like this?" asked Kate finding her treasured ceramic pot.  Indeed, it was Francesca’s perfume!

Kate urged Francesca to create a similar solid perfume product for the Pacific market based on the beauty that is Aotearoa. In 2002 they decided on their unique packaging concept and their first Solid Perfume Range was born.
