Company Profile : Hello Honey

Raw honey is a powerful blend of enzymes, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and sugars. Until the 20th century honey was frequently used to fight infections, and treat burns and wounds. However, when it comes to buying honey it is important to note that most of the commercial honey products found in the supermarket are highly processed and lack any of its original health properties.

Luckily there are ethical companies who sell raw, unprocessed, pure honey which is obtained from the hive via organic methods. When we take a minute to contemplate that it takes about 60, 000 bees and 2 million flowers to produce roughly half a kilogram of honey, we understand why it is important that these precious creatures and their hives are respected.

We interviewed Hello Honey to find out more about their raw honey, medicinal honey and beeswax products.

Where did the idea for Hello Honey come from and how did you get it started?
Hello Honey was started in 2005; my first stall was at the Noosa Farmers Market.  The idea came after my husband burnt his arm and used Medicinal Honey to treat it.  The speed in which it healed and the lack of scarring was incredible. I wanted the world to know that Australia produces a Medicinal Honey just like New Zealand's famous Manuka Honey.

Where is Hello Honey based, and how long has the business been going?
Hello Honey is based in Kin Kin, a little town in the Noosa Hinterland.  We have been operating via our website www.hellohoney.com.au for 10 years+

Why is it important to you that organic methods are used when obtaining your honey from the hive?
We only sell raw honey that is sourced from Australian native plants.  Our beekeepers utilise organic principles when extracting the honey to ensure its natural goodness is not compromised.  Our honey is not heated and it is coarse strained to retain pollen.

What is unique about your honey and beeswax products?
The Hello Honey range is 100% Australian and 100% natural.  Our motto is.... "It's all about the bee's".  We must support our local beekeepers to ensure the future of our bees and our food production.  Our honey and beeswax products are naturally beneficial for inner and outer health.?

Why is it important that people consume raw honey?
Raw honey is as naturally perfect, why would you have it any other way?

What is medicinal honey and how is it used?
Our Australian Medicinal Honey is sourced from the Ti Tree plant Leptospermum Polygalifolium, generally known as the Jelly Bush plant.    It belongs to the same species as New Zealand's Manuka Ti Tree.  Jelly Bush Honey is used as a first aid kit in our home.  We use it to treat grazes, wounds, burns and ulcers.  We dab a little on a bandaid with a spoon, we pass the spoon to our child as we dress their wound, and it quietens them down as they lick the honey off the spoon, a much nicer way for them to deal with the pain.  At the first sign of a sore throat we take a half teaspoon and let it work its wonders.  We love that there are no side effects when using honey.

What are the benefits of using beeswax soap and moisturiser on the skin?
Our BEE Nourished moisturiser is simply beeswax, jojoba and olive oil.  It is safe to use all over your body and is very good at soothing dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.  It is available in an economic 100g tin, a 10g travel pot or 5g lip balm applicator.   If you have curly hair simply moisturise your hands and run your fingers through your curls, it embraces them and stops the winter frizz.  I do not have a curl on my head but curly headed women adore it!  The BEE Delicious Soaps are made from natural ingredients with the added nourishment of honey and beeswax from Stradbroke Island.?

Which of your products are your “best-sellers” and what do you attribute this to?
The Hello Honey best sellers are.....

Jelly Bush Honey 30+
BEE Nourished Moisturiser
Cinnamon Creamed Honey

Are there any other products in your range?
The Hello Honey range has expanded over the years. You can visit www.hellohoney.com.au  to see the beautiful products created from the beehive.

Where are your products available?
After 10 years of Sundays at the Noosa Farmers Market I decided to give it away in order to spend whole weekends with my family.  I still have my retail site www.hellohoney.com.au and supply a small number of retail outlets on the Sunshine Coast, please see website for details in "about us".

Do you have any new products in the pipeline that we can look forward to?
I would love to develop more products that contain Jelly Bush honey!
