Give your child the best nutrition

Give Your Children the Best Nutrition

Raising children in this day and age can be a challenge in many ways, especially when it comes to feeding them a wholesome diet. Most children struggle with eating vegetables and whole foods at the best of times, but especially when adverts for sweets and processed foods are being aimed at them.

Here are some tips you can use to improve your child’s nutrition.

Teach them about healthy food

Children have a thirst for knowledge that we don’t often give them credit for. If you spend time talking to your child about why their body needs proper nourishment to grow you may be surprised by how quickly they make healthy choices on their own. While you may not be able to ensure that they don’t bars of chocolate when you aren’t around, you can make them feel secure about eating healthy food in front of their peers.
Teaching your child what healthy food is and why they should eat it is much more effective than having a screaming match at every meal time.

Limit sugar intake

Sugar seems to be in every single food item on the supermarket shelves these days and it’s over consumption has devastating consequences on the health and behaviour of children. If breakfast consists of fruit juice, processed cereal and a bowl of fruit they are eating a huge amount of sugar just in one meal. This may lead to lack of concentration, tantrums and sleepiness later in the day. Try to get rid of concentrated fruit juice in favour of water and herbal tea and feed them wholegrain oats with blueberries or an omelette with avocado.

Get rid of junk food

If your child has a diet that is high in processed food then it is likely that they will struggle with poor immunity, bad moods and low concentration. The best decision you can make is to focus on giving your child whole, unprocessed food that is free of sugar, additives, flavourants and chemicals.
Forgoing junk food does not mean that your child can’t have sweet snacks or treats. There are thousands of online blogs with healthy recipes for everything from birthday cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, and chocolate bars to healthy chips and muffins.

Make smoothies

Smoothies are a quick and convenient way to give your child a nutritious and tasty meal. Simply throw in some fruit, protein powder, seeds, coconut oil, nut butter and water and blend it all together. You can also hide raw vegetables in smoothies, like spinach, cucumber and kale.
Feed them healthy fats and high quality protein
Healthy fats and protein are an essential part of a child’s diet because they provide calories for energy and are the building blocks for healthy cells.  Fat is especially important for a healthy brain development and proper concentration. Giving your child healthy fats and protein like meat, fish, eggs, beans, nuts and seeds will ensure they have the best start in life.

Take it one step at a time

Getting your child on the path of healthy nutrition can be a challenge, especially if they are a picky eater. Make these changes one day at a time and don’t blame yourself if they have tantrums initially. As these changes start to take root you will see a difference in your child’s health and mood and it will be worth it.
