Health Benefits of Eating Kiwi Fruit

Kiwi fruit is a delicious, bright and beautiful fruit that gets its name from the New Zealand Kiwi bird for its size, colour and furriness. The fruit is most commonly farmed in Italy, Chile and New Zealand but it is a favourite in kitchens across the world.

Kiwi fruit are packed with an array of nutrients and antioxidants and it is an affordable fruit which can be added to your daily smoothie, salad or snack. They are an excellent source of antioxidants like vitamin C, Vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin. Studies have shown that eating Kiwi fruit is associated with a decrease in macular degeneration and other eye problems due to the high levels of antioxidants. Eating this fruit is also associated with a lower incidence of chronic, degenerative health conditions like heart disease, cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

Kiwi fruit contains more Vitamin C than grapefruit and blueberries. It is recommended that people who suffer with allergies and low immunity add this fruit into their daily diet because Vitamin C is a very effective natural anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory and immune booster.

Kiwi fruit is one of the safest fruits for those with diabetes or insulin resistance, or people on a low-carb diet because it has a low glycemic index and does not cause a sharp rise in blood sugar.

Eating Kiwi fruit can help those who suffer with digestive problems. Not only is it packed with fibre, it also contains actinidain, a protein digesting enzyme that can help to digest a protein-rich meal.

A bonus of Kiwi fruit is that they are one of the top 10 fruits that are not heavily sprayed and are therefore generally safe from pesticides.
