Natural and Organic Pet Food

Pet owners often spend more money on the care of their animals than they do on themselves. This can lead to purchases of expensive and heavily marketed bags of pellets that promise to keep your pet healthy, shiny and happy. However, there is a lot of controversy surrounding which kind of pet food is actually the healthiest.

Pets that are fed an unnatural diet often present with health challenges, much like what happens in humans. Like us, dogs and cats function best on unprocessed food that is biologically appropriate for their digestive system.

When selecting food for your pet, keep in mind that dogs and cats are carnivores and this means they need a diet high in protein from sources like beef, lamb, chicken, fish, etc. A diet of raw, organic meat along with off cuts from vegetables is ideal as it provides protein, fat, minerals and vitamins. This kind of natural diet also provides moisture which is essential to prevent dehydration and organ dysfunction. Animals are made up of about 70% water and if they eat mostly dry pellets they are not going to be meeting their water requirements. Organic Paws offers organic raw meat for cats, dogs or other carnivorous animals.

The meat should be organic and contain no chemicals, antibiotics, growth hormones, GMOs, preservatives or synthetic ingredients. These toxic ingredients can build up in your animal’s body over time and lead to degenerative diseases.

Feeding your pet a diet that is biologically suitable and that is free of chemicals, additives, preservatives, antibiotics, pesticides and other unnecessary ingredients will ensure your pet has energy, a shiny coat, healthy skin, healthy teeth and gums and smaller stools.

Sometimes pets need supplemental omega 3 and omega 6 oils if they have eczema, poor immunity, inflammatory conditions (like arthritis) or dull coats. These oils are often missing from their diet and Melrose Health Group offers a great range of oil supplements that can be easily poured over their food.

Pets love getting treats for good behaviour and they are an excellent way to train your animal and show affection. However, keep in mind the same food principles when choosing treats. They should be small amounts of food and free of preservatives and additives.  The best option is often pure and organic dehydrated meat or fish. The Puppy Patisserie offers healthy organic treats for your pet.
