What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a holistic, natural and complementary practice that is gaining popularity across the globe. It uses hard nutritional science to treat and cure chronic diseases, promote better health and boost athletic performance, among other things.

Long term nutritional deficiencies, poor diet, frequent antibiotic and drug use, smoking, frequent soft drink consumption and other common behaviours lead to many chronic health problems that could be helped by Nutritional Therapy. With Nutritional Therapy these imbalances can be corrected through diet, hydration, rest, lifestyle changes and targeted nutrients and supplements.

Nutritional Therapy focuses on the use of whole foods which contain nutrients like minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants that protect us from the onset of disease and help to restore health.

Nutritional Therapists do not diagnose health problems but they do perform in-depth assessments which include a complex case history, functional laboratory testing and blood tests to better understand the person’s health or disease state. This helps to identify the cause of the problem as opposed to just treating symptoms.

Nutritional therapists work mainly in private practice where they advise people on a one-to-one basis. Each client is treated as an individual and the recommendations in their nutrition and lifestyle prescription is unique to them. This differs from conventional medical treatments which often use a “one size fits all’ approach to health care. This being said, Nutritional Therapists never recommend that their clients stop medical treatments. They can also work side by side with your medical doctor to lead you on your path to health and wellness.

If you suffer from symptoms of heartburn, bloating, constipation, IBS, acne, eczema, fatigue, allergies, low immunity, migraines, PMS, depression, and anxiety you may benefit from working with a Nutritional Therapist.

You can find a list of Nutritional Therapists across Australia here.
